Play Et Appelparadiis i. H. k. v. commemoration 1666 Terschelling

Et Apple Paradiis
In 2016 it was 350 years ago that the largest maritime disaster occurred in the Netherlands. On 19 August 1666, the English Navy sailed to Vlieland and Terschelling and destroyed more than 150 Dutch merchant ships, which were waiting for the Roe to sail. Some 2000 sailors were killed. The next day the English admiral Holmes ordered the burning of West Terschelling. As a result of this disaster, various events were organised as part of the commemoration. (see the category commemoration 1666 the English fury on this website). A play was also part of this commemorative year. It was performed by the Terschelling theatre Aaster joonpraters. The play is a so-called Chariot game (play from a chariot), a form of play that was often seen in earlier times. The piece is in Aasters, the local dialect on the eastern part of Terschelling.
