After 23 years, another walrus has been spotted in the Netherlands. The animal swam via the German Wadden Islands to Schiermonnikoog and then to Harlingen. Terschelling was subsequently visited. For a day and a half, many islanders and tourists have been able to marvel at this female walrus. Omrop Fryslân launched a competition, after which the name Freya was chosen from about two thousand entries. This is the name of a Nordic goddess. Freya stands for combative, because she fights for survival. The animal had injuries to the front flippers, but experts say she was in healthy condition. Some of the images were used by the news channels: NOS Op1, SBS 6 Hart van Nederland, RTL 4 Nieuws and NU.nl
