Refurbishing Boschplaat, preparation of Ameland interviews
Staatsbosbeheer starts developing a vision for the future of the Boschplaat nature reserve. Commissioned by the Province of Fryslân, Staatsbosbeheer started in March to draw up a vision for the future of the Boschplaat nature reserve on Terschelling, with the working title: "On a journey on the Boschplaat". This is requested in the recently adopted Natura 2000 Management Plan Terschelling of the Province. The main question is what the future of the Boschplaat will look like if we do not continue to actively manage it, as we do now. For example, is the area keeping up with sea level rise? And how do flora and fauna develop? And above all, will the European statuses of Nature Reserve and N2000 area be preserved under unchanged management? For the answers to these questions, Staatsbosbeheer will closely involve islanders and external experts in the vision development. The kick-off of "the journey" was an excursion to the Hon and the Oerd on Ameland; comparable nature areas with multiple forms of management that, like the Boschplaat, form the "tail" of a Wadden Island. The film shows three interviews with people involved in the Boschplaat project. These are Henk de Vries, director Fryske Gea; Robert Zijlstra, Rijkswaterstaat and Willem Mier, entrepreneur Terschelling.
